Boko Haram Attacking Civilians Is Only A Sign Of Desperation - Army

The Nigerian Army has described the recent attacks on the civilian population by Boko Haram terrorists, using Improvised Explosive Devices, as a sign of desperation and weakness by the group.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. -Gen. Sani Usman, stated this in a statement while confirming the killing of two female suicide bombers in Waga Lawan community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Usman said that the two bombers were killed by troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade in conjunction with a civilian vigilance group on Wednesday when the assailants, wearing suicide vests, refused to stop for a search.

Our correspondent learnt that the troops attached to Operation Lafiya Dole had earlier repelled the terrorists’ attack on Gulak community, also in Madagali.

The terrorists had attempted to infiltrate the community while driving in with a vehicle loaded with IEDs, it was gathered.

It was learnt that while the vehicle attempted to gain access to a military location, a soldier was killed and three others were injured.

The army said the remains of the soldier had been evacuated while the wounded persons were receiving treatment in a military hospital.

He said, “Two female suicide bombers were challenged by troops in Waga Lawan community while fleeing from the bush. The bombers refused all efforts to stop them. On sighting the suicide vests on them, they were killed by the troops.

“The decimated Boko Haram terrorists are more desperate and resorting to the use of persons and vehicles with IEDs to attack soft targets and vulnerable members of the public.”
