Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and wife, Zeenat, have returned to Nigeria from India on Thursday, August 15.
The embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and his wife came back to the country barely three days after going on a medical trip to India.
The IMN issued a statement, saying that El-Zakzaky was given an ultimatum by Indian authorities to accept what was offered or leave. The cleric chose the latter option. This was stated by the secretary of IMN’s Academic Forum, Abdullahi Musa.
… he was denied access to doctors that examined him here (Nigeria), hence we knew his medical condition better. The Sheikh also complained of the tough security situation he was placed under.
Based on these experiences, he refused to be treated and the ultimatum was issued to him to either reverse his decision or leave India. He chose to return home rather than be treated like a criminal in a medical facility in India.Abdullahi Musa – legit.ng
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Grace Isu Gekpe, had said that in line with the court order, El-Zakzaky was cleared to embark on a trip to India with State officials and his choice to be accompanied by his aides and personal doctors were not opposed by the government.
