According to Manchester Evening News, a police statement said: “We can confirm that the fatal victim of the shooting incident on Langbroekdreef last night was 32-year-old Kelvin Maynap.
The Paramaribo Suriname born Maynard joined Burton in November 2014 and described it at the time as “a dream”. He was restricted by injury to just 10 appearances as his team won the 2014/5 League Two title before he was ruled out the following season after suffering a knee injury in a pre-season game.
He left Burton two and a half years ago to join the Dutch side Spakenburg . The married Dutch-Surinamese player, also had a stint at Royal Antwerp, was at non-league Dutch club Alphense Boys.
As a gesture of respect to Kelvin, the club’s next fixture which was scheduled to be played on Saturday has been postponed.
