Frank Lampard, former Chelsea, Manchester City and England Midfielder has been nominated to become the new manager of Oxford United, English football club, League One.
After he had retired earlier this year dated 2nd February, 2017, after a spell in the US with New York City, Lampard returned to Chelsea to work on his coaching and his first managerial job may not be too far away, as he is set to move straight into management after becoming Oxford’s top choice to replace Michael Appleton, who is now assistant coach at Leicester, according to the Sun.
Lampard has tried punditry, television and now could be set for his first spell in management.
With Lampard lacking in managerial experience but looking for his first job in the English football third tier, this could prove an ideal opportunity for the 39-year-old.
League One would provide him with the experience of managing in a highly competitive English league and with Oxford finishing eighth last season, he could be in line to take over at one of the divisions stronger sides.
Lampard is good friends with Oxford’s director Dave Jones, who is leading a three-man panel to find their next manager.
The other joint-favourite leading the race to be the next Oxford boss alongside Lampard is former Charlton and Huddersfield boss Chris Powell.
Powell has previously enjoyed a wealth of success during his last managerial reign in League One with Charlton.
He led the Addicks from League One back into the Championship, winning the League with the club he made 200 appearances for as a player.
There is still a rumour about the lucky person that is yet to take over at the Kassam Stadium because it would be exciting to watch their match, especially if it ends with Lampard being the new manager.
