Rape Victim

It was double jeopardy for a married woman who reportedly got swindled of N1m under false pretense and in her effort to recover the money she was also raped in the process.

The incident happened at Afolabi Street in Ogba, where she parted with the money but was taken to Egbeda where one of the fraudsters engaged her in marathon sex and she did not recover her money.

The embattled woman was devastated and she reported the matter to the Ikeja Police Division. The police trailed the suspects, eventually arrested two of them while the other two escaped and were at large.

The two suspects were Israel Chidubem, 45 and Joel Ayengbe, 48.

It was gathered that the suspects conspired and obtained the money under false pretences for an undisclosed transaction and did not fulfil their own part of the agreement.

Hence, the victim then asked for the refund of her money. One of the suspects, Chidubem, promised to assist her to get her money back.
It was in the process that Chidubem took her to a hotel in Egbeda, confused her with the promise of getting her money back and engaged her in sex romp for several hours.

Thereafter, he allowed her to go with the promise to contact her later for her money but never did. It was then that she realised she had been defrauded and also engaged in sex under false pretense which made her to report to the police.

The suspects were found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conspiracy and stealing while Chidubem was charged for rape by engaging in sexual activity with the victim without her consent.
They pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor informed the Court that two other suspects were still at large and the Police were making every effort to arrest and bring them to Court.

The defendants were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

However, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fagborun, directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.

The defendants were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while awaiting the outcome of the DPP’s report. The matter was adjourned till 3rd July, 2019.
