The recently conducted Local Government elections in Rivers State has seen the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 23 local government areas of the state.
The State Independent Electoral Commission chairman, Justice Chukwunenye Uriri (retd.), who declared the results of the election on Sunday night, explained that the exercise was free, fair and devoid of violence.
The All Progressives Congress boycotted the election, saying that it decided to obey court orders concerning the exercise that was conducted on Saturday.
Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent, the winner of the council election in Ikwerre Local Government, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, expressed gratitude to the people of the area for expressing their confidence in him through their votes.
Nwanosike, who got 78,662 votes, pointed out that he would fulfill all his campaign promises to the people of Ikwerre Local Government Area.
