Man United had a poor start to the game but 3 goals converted by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial in the closing stages shut down Rooney and his Everton teammates down.
Before the game, Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney were the most talked about but surprisingly Antonio Valencia stole the shine when he got the ball to the back of the net with a 20-yard strike 4 minutes into the game.
Everton played great football in the first period of the game but Rooney could not convert his chances and also United proved a threat with Lukaku missing out on 2 occasions.
United were poor after the break, meanwhile, David de Gea twice bailed them out when denying Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
But in the latter stages of the game United proved class to punish Koeman and Everton, as Lukaku (scored 89 mins) linked up with Mkhitaryan, scored himself (83 mins) and then saw Anthony Martial fire home a penalty (90+ mins), extending Everton’s winless run to six games in all competitions to further increase Koeman’s headache.
