Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has said it was because of his family that he resigned as the Nigeria coach. The former Nigeria international stepped down from his role as the Super Eagles coach in February, citing unpaid salaries and broken promises on the part of his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation.

However, he has now claimed it was because of his family that he quit just a month to two crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt.

“Most of the time I was living in Belgium so I was not reachable to give comments but it got to a time I had to think of my two kids and the 21 years of marriage I have had with my wife and decided to pass the button to another person,” Oliseh was quoted by the Punch.

The former Juventus midfielder also claimed deciding to resign was the most difficult decision he has had to make.

“Deciding to resign from the coaching job of the Super Eagles is the most difficult decision I ever took in my whole life. It took me a whole month to decide it,” the 42-year-old said further.

Meanwhile, Oliseh also claimed that Africa is the most talented continent with players who have football skills when compared with the rest of the world.

“When I started my football career at the age of 16 in Belgium, the Europeans never taught me how to dribble the ball or pass

they only taught me how to be disciplined and what to do at the right time. They just polish what we as Africans have.”
