Taika Waititi, the director of the upcoming Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, has talked about the possibility of Jane’s breast cancer storyline coming into play in the film.
Speaking to Variety, Waititi said how cool it would be for Jane to fight two battles at the same time, and that he loved the storyline.
I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally, I really love that storyline. But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen.Taika Waititi
In the Marvel Comics storyline, Thor becomes unworthy to carry his magical hammer, Mjolnir, at the same time that former flame Jane is receiving treatment for breast cancer.
A mysterious female takes possession of Mjolnir and wielding it, starts to call herself the Mighty Thor. It is eventually revealed that Jane and this unknown character are one and the same person. Becoming the super-powered heroine temporarily gets rid of the cancer, but it still causes damage to her body when she is in ordinary human form.
The story making its way to the movie’s script would be something to see as Jane being frequently portrayed as the typical damsel in distress has become annoyingly tiresome.
And if anyone can pull off the ambitious character arc, it’s Natalie Portman, who is an award-winner, with the help of Waititi, who reinvented the Thor character in Thor: Ragnarok (fans and critics absolutely loved the change).
Thor: Love and Thunder is yet to start production but when it does, more information should make its way online. Till then, here is wishing the breast cancer storyline makes its way to the final screenplay.
